MBSR Online FAQs

How many classes are in the course?

The program consists of one two-hour orientation session, eight weekly two-hour classes, and a dedicated practice day (on a weekend) usually between sessions six and seven.

How many people are in a class?

The classes are kept small to insure individual attention, but large enough to benefit from learning in a group. There is usually between 10 - 20 participants.

I have physical limitations - will this class be suitable for me?

Please check with your physician if you have any concerns.  Generally, if you are able to travel to and from your home, any physical limitations you may have can be accommodated within the class.

Is there any yoga included in the class?  If so, do I need experience?

Some very gentle stretching and mindful movement using simple yoga postures is included in the course.  You do not need any experience with yoga at all.  The instructor can help you with modifications to any of the postures if you have physical limitations -- including doing the postures in a chair and substituting postures.

What if I decide the course isn’t for me after attending the orientation session?

If you have already paid, you will get a 100% refund.

Is there homework from this course?

The course does not require any reading; there is home practice each day using the recorded guidance provided to you.  More detail on this is discussed at the orientation.

What do I need to attend the online course?

You will need a space in your house where you will be undisturbed. You will need a yoga mat for the mindful movement, unless you plan to do the practice in a chair (which is completely OK.)

Technology requirements: each participant needs their own device to participate (no sharing with house mates). It’s best to use a computer, second best is a tablet, and third best a recent smartphone. In all cases you need a stable internet connection.

We use a great platform for this (Zoom), that I have a lot of experience using for mindfulness classes. You can check your equipment compatibility by going to this test meeting:  Zoom test meeting link.

For home practice, you can use the same equipment to listen to the recorded guidance. In the orientation we cover the use of the Zoom platform so you are comfortable before the course proper begins.
